TIA flights heavily impacted by extreme northern winter conditions

TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Tampa International Airport officials said they continue to experience a higher number of flight delays and cancellations due to icy conditions impacting airports to the north and that trend will continue Tuesday.

As of 3 p.m., officials said there have been 117 reported delays - 57 departures and 60 arrivals - with an average delay time of 68 minutes. In addition to the delays, there have been 28 cancelled flights arriving to and departing from TPA.

Travelers are advised to check with their airline before coming to the airport. 

Officials said New York is TIA's largest market. 

Officials said when bad weather hits New York and Chicago, it affects flights throughout the country.
