The Buses Start Rolling In Hillsborough County Tuesday

TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - While all other Bay Area students have already started their new school year, Hillsborough County students are beginning their new year Tuesday.

Nearly 200,000 students are returning to class in Hillsborough.

Superintendant Mary Ellen Elia says teachers will be transitioning to the new, national Common Core educational standards this year.

There will also be a continuation of security procedures that were put in place last winter following the Sandy Hook tragedy.  That means there'll be extra fencing, security cameras and a controlled access protocol on each campus.

And in the cafeteria, Elia says there's more healthy choices for students.  She says parents can even download an app that will give them the lunch menu for the entire month.
