Tampa Man Charged With Making Explosives

TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Police were called to the 900 block of Sligh Avenue Tuesday because a man injured his hand with fireworks.  They found James Lee Minyard, who was missing the tips of two fingers.

Detectives eventually discovered two homemade explosives in that area and four more in his house.

Minyard was arrested and charged with manufacturing and possession explosive devices.

Investigators say the 41-year-old, who lives with his parents, insisted he didn't plan to hurt anyone, but wanted to prove he could build the devices.  He said he planned to detonate them around his house.

Police say the explosives were extremely dangerous, but they don't have any indication Minyard is connected to any group.
