Tampa man 1 of latest Rhodes scholars
MIAMI (AP) - A Tampa man who graduated summa cum laude from Wake Forest University in May has been selected as a Rhodes Scholar to study next year at Oxford University.
James O'Connell is one of 32 scholars whose selections were announced Sunday by the Rhodes trust. The trust says O'Connell will enter the masters in public policy program at oxford.
At Wake Forest, O'Connell majored in politics and international affairs, writing his senior thesis on Al-Qaida after Osama Bin Laden. He is currently on a one-year assignment in university president's office.
O'Connell was a student member of the school's board of trustees and a chair of the Honor Council. He has written one feature length screenplay and three for short films and hosted a radio show on film and culture.
