SARASOTA, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Police said a Sarasota man is behind bars after they say his girlfriend told officers he poured hot sauce all over a 3-month old puppy.
When officers arrived to the scene early Sunday morning, police said they met with the homeowner who told them her boyfriend, Ephrian Myles, 47, poured hot sauce all over her 3-month old Dachshund/Chihuahua mix, named Gizmo.
Police said the homeowner told officers the puppy has a medical history of seizures. The puppy suffered another seizure, police said, and started making a yelping noise. According to the homeowner, police said Myles became annoyed with the yelping, grabbed Gizmo and opened a bottle of hot sauce and began to pour it all over the puppy. Police said the hot sauce covered the puppy's whole body, got into his eyes and down his throat.
Police said the homeowner took the puppy and went to a nearby fire department to get help. Sarasota PD said two officers saw the puppy’s eyes swollen shut and having difficulty breathing, so they washed Gizmo off with water and a towel and turned him over to animal services where he is expected to make a full recovery.
Police said Myles has been charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty.
