Recreational Snook harvest season closes

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (AP) - It's the end of the recreational Snook harvest season in Atlantic state and federal waters.

A statement by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says the season closes Sunday for waters that include Lake Okeechobee and the Kissimmee River. The season reopens Feb. 1.

Wildlife officials say Snook fishing can still continue during the closed season, but it must be released back into the water.

Gulf state and federal waters, including Monroe County and Everglades National Park, closed Dec. 1 and will reopen to harvest March 1.

The commission says the season closures help protect the species during vulnerable times such as cold weather.
