Welden Pleads Guilty In Abortion Pill Case

TAMPA, Fla (970 WFLA)-The man accused of tricking his pregnant girlfriend into taking a pill that caused her to have a miscarriage has pleaded guilty under a plea deal.

Twenty eight year-old John Andrew Welden could get 13-and-a-half years in prison when he's sentenced December 5th.

Weldon entered guilty pleas to tampering with a consumer product and conspiracy to commit mail fraud under the terms of an agreement.

Welden could have faced a mandatory life sentence without parole if he had been convicted of murder under the “Unborn Victims of Violence Act,” a charge that was brought when he was first arrested in May.

In his plea deal, Welden admitted to forging a prescription from his dad, Dr. Stephen Welden, then switching labels on the abortion drug to make it appear as a common antibiotic.

Weldon's girlfirend, Remee Lee, who was several weeks pregnant at the time, lost the baby a couple of days after taking the pill.
