Pinellas tourism officials eye another successful year

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (970 WFLA) -- It's been another record year for tourism in Pinellas County.

The bed tax is up eight percent over last year. DT Minich, the executive director of Visit St. Pete/Clearwater tells AM Tampa Bay that part of it is due to a slow storm season.

“We’re always a little nervous beginning of hurricane season, but we had a wonderful year I think with weather and we’ve had a lot of increases in international visitation which always helps because they stay longer and spend more money than a domestic visitor,” Minich said.

Minich said many European visitors have come from Switzerland and Austria since Edelweiss Airlines is now offering non-stop flights to TIA.
