PCSO investigating meth lab in Treasure Island

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Pinellas County Sheriff’s detectives said they have arrested a man in connection with a Treasure Island meth-lab investigation

Deputies said the Treasure Island Police Department was conducting a welfare check at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning in the village of Paradise Island Condominiums.

During the course of their investigation, deputies said a man ran away from them.

Deputies said the man ran into a house on Sandy Hook Road.  As officers gave chase inside the residence, deputies said they began to notice substances and containers used to manufacture methamphetamine. Seeing these hazardous items, deputies said officers backed out of the location and called for additional resources to respond.

Deputies said it was at this time various components of their agency responded to the scene, to include: narcotics division, negotiator response team, and the swat team.

Detectives and members of the negotiator response team attempted to make contact with the man for several hours before he voluntarily surrendered to authorities on scene, according to the PCSO.

Detectives and fire rescue hazmat teams are now carefully investigating the interior of the residence to determine the extent of the meth lab, PCSO said.
