Large, 100-acre brush fire in Ruskin

RUSKIN, Fla. (970 WFLA) - HillsboroughCounty firefighters are battling hot spots to a 100-acre brush fire in the southern part of the county.

The fire was in the area of 19th Ave NE just north of Hwy 674 in the Sun City/Ruskin area.

Firefighters said the area appears to be a cow pasture and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Fire officials said I-75 was a concern at one point, but because of the quick response of crews to the scene and the wind direction shifting, the interstate was not in danger.

Officials also said the fire spread to the north heading toward ApolloBeach, threatening some homes and farming equipment near the CovingtonPark subdivision, but stopped flames in their tracks. Florida Forestry Services assisted.

No one was injured, according to HCFR.
