CLEARWATER, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Saying the murder of St. Petersburg police officer David Crawford was deliberate, a Pinellas judge has sentenced 18-year-old Nicholas Lindsey to life in prison with no chance of parole.
It's the same sentence Lindsey received after he was convicted of Crawford's murder in February of 2010.
As the sentence was announced, a relative ran out of the courtroom crying. Lindsey shook his head with a smirk on his face.
The U.S. Supreme Court had ruled that juveniles can't be sentenced to a mandatory life sentence without the chance of parole. Lindsey was 16-years-old at the time of the 2010 murder.
But the judge said Lindsey "acted deliberately" and could not be rehabilitated.
Lindsey is still appealing his case.
