Tampa, Fla.-(970 WFLA)-The man arrested for the murder of a Family Dollar Store manager has been in court. Twenty three year-old Demetrius Parks was denied bond by a Hillsborough County judge for the shooting death of 49 year-old Horsley Shorter, Junior.
Tampa police say Parks gunned down Shorter when he came to the aid of a clerk at the East Tampa store during a robbery. Officers say Parks then took off in the clerk's car.
Investigators say Parks went to Atlanta, but was headed back aboard a Greyhound bus. Police got information about Parks' travels and met the bus as it arrived in Orlando. Parks tried to escape through an emergency exit, but officers caught him.
Police say Park is a career criminal with almost 40 felony arrests since he was 14 years of age.
