CLEARWATER, Fla (970 WFLA)- Politicians, bureaucrats, academicians, business executives and hopefully a few regular folk are meeting in Clearwater for the next three days for a statewide education summit.
Public schools are switching from the Sunshine State Standards to a national system known as Common Core Standards. Education Commissioner Tony Bennett was one of the strongest supporters of that change, but he's not in charge any more
Bennett quit after being accused of rigging school grades when he was education commissioner of Indiana. That energized the opponents of school grades in Florida, and the opponents of common core. Governor Rick Scott says Florida has reached a critical point, so he's convening this education summit to figure out where what's next with state standards, student assessments, school grades and teacher evaluations
