(WFLA - Tampa, Fla.) A matching paint chip and a tip have led Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies to the person they believe is responsible for a fatal hit and run Tuesday morning.
23-year-old Christopher Kimmel is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
Investigators say they found Kimmel's 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck parked behind Ben's Restaurant on Brandon Boulevard. A green paint chip found at the scene of the accident matched that truck.
Deputies say Kimmel was on his way to meet his brother at Ben's Restaurant, where they both work when the accident occured. His brother ended up taking Kimmel to the hospital for a head laceration.
29-year-old Michael Lee was riding his bicycle eastbound on the right shoulder of U.S. 92 when he was struck by the vehicle which was also traveling east on the overpass. Lee was thrown from the bicycle, over the guardrail to the south, and came to rest in the retention area below, approximately 80 feet below the overpass. The suspect vehicle did not stop.
Two witnesses, who were traveling east on the off-ramp saw the victim's backpack and body fall from above, but did not see the suspect vehicle.
