ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — The attorney for the woman who accused Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston of sexual assault is asking the state for an independent examination into the investigation.
Attorney Patricia Carroll called on Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate the Tallahassee Police Department’s handling of the case, saying that detectives failed to interview key witnesses and that DNA tests were unreliable and incomplete. The problems with the investigation “are so significant and so multiple,” Carroll said during a news conference at Zephyr Park.
Neither the accuser or her family were at the news conference. Carroll faulted detectives for not following protocol or interviewing key witnesses.
